Here's a look at what happened in RFID application segments and basic technologies globally in 2007 and what's on the horizon for RFID in the year to come.
The year 2007 was particularly significant due to the high emphasis on positive return on investment (ROI) and realistic consumer expectations. This year, we also saw an increase in adoption of closed-loop applications and newer vertical market segments. New product developments occurred in the RFID reader space, including smaller and flexible chipset modules that enabled reducing the size of the reader and dramatically decreasing the overall cost of investment. The EPCglobal Gen 2 standard gained increased worldwide acceptance throughout 2007.
