Checkpoint Systems, a manufacturer of RF and RFID products for inventory management and identification in Thorofare, N.J., reported Monday it will acquire RFID application and middleware provider OATSystems in an all-cash transaction expected to close in early July. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The two companies say Oat offers complementary applications that enhance Checkpoint's presence in the retail sector. Specifically, OAT software processes large quantities of data from RFID hardware to help retailers obtain accurate inventory levels and ensure on-shelf availability of merchandise.
Checkpoint unveiled in April 2007 its Evolve product family of labels to provide retail customers ways to leverage RFID tools for in-store inventory visibility while using EAS tags to discourage theft. The piece missing from its product line had been a method to use data compiled in the platform. Oat gives the company the tools to complete the task.
Senior management of OAT, including Michael George, president and chief executive officer of OAT, will continue to operate the business as a division of Checkpoint. The company will use and develop the OAT brand and software platform to serve retail, consumer products and industrial customers.
