Intermec's CN3 and CN3e rugged mobile computers will support Microsoft's System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008, a mobile management and access system for Windows Mobile devices, the company announced Tuesday.
The CN3 and CN3e support Microsoft's System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008, giving IT administrator the ability to remotely enforce network security policies and configure and maintain devices for a group of workers. Dan Bodnar, Intermec director of industry marketing, says the system was designed to allow one administrator to manage a large group of mobile computers.
Imagine a distribution center or manufacturing floor where employees rely on mobile computers to maintain inventory accuracy wirelessly. Workers who travel to customers can use the mobile computers to eliminate paperwork and automate business processes associated with product delivery, field service and route sales. Employees benefit from increased access to secure corporate data and troubleshooting support from their IT administrator.
Designed to meet the needs of workers in transportation, logistics and field service, the CN3 and CN3e mobile computers are designed to deliver several types of communications technologies in a compact package. Integrated global positioning system (GPS) with internal antenna enables workers to deploy resources and improve asset visibility. The CN3 and CN3e come with WiFi, Bluetooth, and choice of WAN Radio--3G CDMA/EV-DO or GSM/EDGE.
CN3 and CN3e also offer integrated hardware features and peripheral support, such as data collection, barcode scanner, imager, and camera, as well as integration for magnetic-stripe card reader and portable RFID reader.
Microsoft's System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 comes as part of Windows Mobile 6, so it's included in the price of the mobile computer, which ranges in list price from $2,200 to $3,500, depending on configuration and options
Intermec is both a Microsoft Direct OEM and Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and has worked closely with Microsoft to ensure the CN3 and CN3e works well with Mobile Device Manager. Updates enabling the CN3 and CN3e to work with System Center Mobile Device Manager will become available in the first half of 2008.
